"WHAT I DID ON MY WINTER VACATION"

Come to this month’s meeting and hear from members that made the trip to Clear Lake, Iowa for the 50th anniversary of the death of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens & The Big Bopper. Combined with all the sadness of the reason for the event, I’m sure the “Clear Lake 8” will have some fun filled and lasting memories to share. Some of the celebs scheduled to be in attendance are The Crickets, Wanda Jackson, Bobby Vee, Jimmy Clanton, Brian Hyland & Peter & Gordon.

The Event is called “50 Winters Later”. Special guests scheduled to appear at different symposiums are Buddy’s widow, Maria Elena Holly, Ritchie Valens’ brothers & sisters, The Big Bopper’s son, J P Jr, Tommy Allsup, Sonny Burgess and Bob Hale, the man who was the master of ceremonies the night of the concert.

Looking for some interesting websites that are dedicated to searching for songs, doing some research on recording company labels, stations that play oldies or obscure songs or just need an update on how to navigate through the BRC website and maybe do your own radio show? A program is being planned that will help you. If you are new to the computer or can operate one blindfolded, this will be a helpful program for all. Paul Ozburn will be putting this together for us.

UPCOMING PROGRAMS AT THE BRC CLUB MEETINGS

What recordings that are relevant to Alabama do you consider the most important? Club member Andy Millard, who is employed at UAB and is currently writing a book on the local music scene, has picked his top 5. Put your thinking cap on and be prepared to give your top 5. COMING IN APRIL.

We also have tentative plans on getting Jerry “Boogie” McCain to come and talk to us at a meeting in the near future. More info as soon as it is confirmed.

PS: Sorry for such a short newsletter this month. I have been unable to spend time at the computer due to work and I out of town for 5 days as part of the “Clear Lake 8”. Hopefully next month will be better.
