CHANGE IN THIS MONTH’S MEETING DATE

Due to Mother’s Day this month our May meeting is this Sunday, the first Sunday. We will be meeting in Room 110, our old room due to this change.

Now it is time to concentrate on our August record/cd show. That is “AUGUST”. As in 3 months away. We need everyone to pitch in again and help make our 27th annual show another fun filled success. What can you do? Work at the front table. Work in the kitchen and/or at the counter. Help with the Friday set-up. Get donations of food and/or drinks. Contact local TV or radio stations about spreading the news. Take fliers to various stores. Help contact dealers. So much to do. It’s not too early to start the ball rolling now.

Thanks to club member, Bob Friedman, A.K.A Jerry Wells, for an informative, fun-filled Doo Wop program last month. Bob had a 45 released under the name of Jerry Wells many years ago. The name was chosen by the record company. He got between $5 - $10 and for each of “his” records he wanted he had to pay 20 cents. Bob did what many of us wished we had done and that was being part of a band or group, performing on stage and being on vinyl. Thanks, Bob. We really enjoyed it.

Good to see club member Terrell Lindsey drop by at last month’s meeting. Terrell had a liver transplant the last of March. Good to know the recovery is going well.

Bill Taylor’s wife, Pat, recently under went surgery. Best wishes for her recovery as well. Keep Pat & Bill in your thoughts and prayers.

Tom Spitzley’s wife, Sandra, will be undergoing surgery on April 30th. Again, our thoughts and prayers are with Sandra and Tom.

Our fearless leader, Ben Saxon, has taken a fall... literally. It seems that Ben was on a ladder recently and fell while doing his honey-do chores and fractured his hip. He had surgery and will be in the hospital for a number of days before going through a 6 to 8 week rehabilitation period.
If you would like to go visit him or send him a card, he is in St. Vincent's Hospital in room 663. Their address is: 810 St. Vincent's Drive, Birmingham, AL 35205. His phone number is 939-7663

NEXT MONTH

When you hear the name David Gates, what comes to mind? Hold that thought. There’s more to the guy that most people know. Check in next month and find out more about his musical career.

See ya,
