My Dad's Record Collection

Hello Collectors

My dad left me his record collection from the 1940's thru the 80's and I have no idea what to do with it. I know that some are worth a lot of money (I've been told) and I need to find out how much. If anyone can help me out that will be great. A little info on the records most are 33's and 45's jazz, folk, blues, and Latin and limited editions. All are albums are in the original sleeves. Please help.

Thanks
Daddy Girl

help with collection

hello.. i'm tony powell and i'm in pensacola, fl so i would be of limited help to you but i do suggest you contact one of several of my friends in b'ham. ben saxon, david bryant are only 2 of several that i would recommend to help you.
i'm not sure you said you are selling the collection or just want an appraisal though.
when i had my store i sold on consignment with my customers. i sold consignment items at the b'ham shows as well. perhaps that is what you might consider rather than selling outright, if at all.
appraising your collection is a good idea for insurance purposes. many people had me do that for them. in fact, one person brought an ultra-rare beatles 45... i'm talking worth well more than $1000 that got destroyed in his house fire. but, there was enough vinyl showing as well as partial label to determine it's condition before the fire. he got a very just insurance settlement because of that. he was truly lucky the record was not completely melted away. he would have been out of luck.
anyway, just a little story.
you can contact me at tpowell@panhandle.rr.com and i'll be happy to help if i can but do contact some of the guys there in b'ham if you are local. if you aren't local, maybe they know some honest dealers in your area that can help.
good luck.
