BRC Newsletter for March 2006

Our Monthly Club Meeting will be this Sunday, March 12th at the Homewood Public Library. The Meeting will start at 2:00 PM. Be sure to bring 45’s, LP’s and CD’s to the meeting to sale or trade. We hope everyone will find some great 45’s, LP’s and/or CD’s to take home. See all of you Sunday. Come and eat lunch with your friends at the BRC Club Meeting. Call another music lover and bring them with you to this meeting. They may just find that long lost music treasure they have been looking for all these years.

APRIL CLUB MEETING WILL BE ON THE 9th, the 2nd SUNDAY

Have you checked out the new and improved BRC website? If you haven’t, you should. You will be surprised what you will find. At last month’s meeting Ben And Bryant Saxon gave an excellent insight into all the possibilities the website now offers. If nothing else, check out the Heart & Soul Of Rock & Roll music programs you can now listen to. This is music that can be heard by anyone worldwide. What a great testimony for our club. Thanks again Ben & Bryant.

At last month’s meeting we had to go get an extra chair or two. We had 25-30 members in attendance. Please support your club by attending whenever possible. Come and enjoy the music, the programs presented by your friends, the food and refreshments, and good fellowship. Members want to know your expertise, what type music you like best or what you enjoy collecting. Sign up to be a presenter and tell us some of the things that excite you about record collecting, music memorabilia or music history.

If you are a local music fan, a 50’s-60’s music fan or just a music fan period, you will want to be at the meeting this month. Bill Taylor has re-mastered over 40 songs that Jerry Woodard recorded and will have some copies of this cd at the meeting. This is a double cd delight. Come and listen to the songs you remember and many you may have never heard before.

Jerry Woodard was born in Anniston, Alabama on May 25, 1941. Jerry was from a musical family. His mother taught him his first chords on a guitar.  Jerry’s father was a minister and this influence was evident as Jerry would sometimes break into a gospel song while performing at a club. Jerry recorded many songs between 1956-64 some of which include “Six Long Weeks” ,“Downbeat”, “Who’s Gonna Rock My Baby”, “Just You Wait”, “Speedway Rock” and of course “Long Tall Texan”. Some of these were on local labels including Reed, Colvin, Fad and Heart. For a complete listing of Jerry Woodard songs go to http://rcs.law.emory.edu/rcs/artists/w/wood2600.htm. Jerry passed away in 1980. Come and hear these songs and more like they have never been heard before.

Being just 5 months from our annual record and cd show, we need your help. What contacts do you have in the advertising business that might be a good resource to use to get the word out? It might be radio, TV or the print media. There are plenty of areas where help will be needed in the coming months. Come to the meetings and offer your assistance. We have had the biggest record and cd show in the southeast for many years. Come and help us keep it that way. The show dates are August 19th & 20th.

Some upcoming concerts that may of interest to you:

I want to also inform our members of the passing of one of our members. Jim Hoobler, 61, of Jasper passed away last week. I didn’t know Jim but understand that he was a friend to all and loved his family very much. Our sympathies go out to his family and friends.

See ya Sunday,

Charlie
